Who can participate in recruitment?
All female IU Southeast students are eligible to participate in sorority recruitment provided that (1) they are a regularly enrolled student with Indiana University Southeast at the time of recruitment in August, (2) they have never been initiated into one of the 26 NPC Sororities at IU Southeast or on another campus, and (3) they register for recruitment and pay the required registration fee.
Is there a grade requirement to participate in recruitment and/or join a sorority?
No, there is not a minimum GPA required to participate in recruitment. Although Panhellenic does not require a specific GPA to participate in recruitment or COB, each sorority has a minimum grade requirement to be eligible for membership. Every sorority strives to maintain a high chapter GPA, therefore each must consider a woman's ability to adhere to the chapter's scholastic standards. While scholastic standards is a component of the membership selection process, please note that meeting this minimum does not guarantee membership in a sorority.
What if I don't live on campus?
Since we do not have sorority houses, most of our Panhellenic women live off-campus either at home or with other sisters. While some do live on campus in the residence halls, it is not required to be in a sorority.
What is a legacy? Do I need to be one to join a sorority?
A legacy is a close relative of a member (usually mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, and cousins) of a particular sorority, but each sorority has a different policy on recruiting legacies. Legacies are not guaranteed a bid and all potential members are expected to consider all chapters equally. It is important that each potential member finds a chapter with whom she shares values and feels comfortable.
What if I am an upperclassman or transfer student?
Provided that you are an IU Southeast student and have not been initiated into another NPC Sorority, you can participate in recruitment. Many active sorority members at IU Southeast participated in recruitment having not been a new college student.
Can Purdue Polytechnic or online students participate in recruitment?
Yes! Since Purdue Polytechnic students take their general education requirements at IU Southeast, they are IU Southeast students and therefore eligible to participate. Online students are enrolled through IU Southeast, so of course they are eligible! Keep in mind, if you are an online student and live further away, recruitment and membership have time commitments.
