The purpose of Sigma Kappa is provide women with lifelong opportunities and support for social, intellectual, and spiritual development by bringing women together to positively impact our communities.
Sigma Kappa was founded in 1874 by five college-aged women at Colby College, being the first sorority ever established on their campus. For 145 years, Sigma Kappa has been uniting women in lifelong friendship, bringing over 172,000 women to more than 120 collegiate chapters nationwide. We are bound by a promise to uphold the values of Sigma Kappa: personal growth, friendship, service, and loyalty.
In 1973, the Zeta Alpha chapter of Sigma Kappa became the first sorority to come to IU Southeast. Since then, we have received multiple awards ranging from Sisterhood and Highest GPA recognition, to being ranked as a Two Stars of Excellence (out of three stars) chapter. We strive to support the values of other sororities and fraternities on campus through their philanthropic efforts. Sigma Kappa truly lives by its purpose to positively impact our communities. When we are not doing philanthropic events, you can find us strengthening our sisterhood and always surrounding ourselves with each other!
